Cornell Abroad, the undergraduate study abroad program of Cornell University, is seeking to hire a Teaching Fellow for the Cornell-Nepal Study Program (CNSP) in Kirtipur, Nepal, for the academic year 2008-09, consisting of the Fall 2008 and Spring 2009 semesters. The program is conducted in cooperation with Tribhuvan University, Nepal, and is described on the Cornell Abroad home page

The Teaching Fellow reports to the Resident Administrator of the program. Responsibilities included in the position for 25 hours of work weekly throughout the academic year include:
- assisting faculty from Tribhuvan University teaching courses "Contemporary Issues in Nepal" and "Research Design" in preparation of materials, organizing and producing the syllabus and schedule, advising students on paper topics, assignments, academic procedures, etc.
- attending all lectures associated with these courses and hold regular discussion sections with the U.S. and Nepali students in the courses
- giving occasional lectures or units in program courses, depending upon academic field
- maintaining regular office hours to consult with students
- providing feedback from students to the program and faculty
- advising individual students on their field research projects and work with the Director and other staff to coordinate logistics, safety information, etc.
- participating in the study tour each semester and help bolster the academic aspects of the tour
- arranging and supervising internships for undergraduate and graduate students with organizations based in Nepal
- fulfilling other responsibilities assigned by the Resident Administrator and Cornell Abroad
The weekly work commitment may varies during the year according to the needs of the program. The successful candidate will be encouraged to pursue research, independent study, or an internship during the time available apart from the CNSP obligation.
Remuneration includes:
- room and board in one of the program residences throughout the academic year
- round-trip air travel between your location and Kathmandu at the beginning and end of the academic year
- a stipend equivalent to $6,000 for the academic year
- medical evacuation and repatriation insurance during the term of employment
- support for a Research Visa
Qualifications
- graduate work in any field, with a focus on Nepal studies. Applicants with a background in science or public policy would be welcome.
- familiarity with the U.S. and Nepali educational system
- previous experience in Nepal and study of Nepali language
- strong interest in field-based international education
- ability to relate well to students in an intensive residential learning situation
-computer skills desirable
